Paris Like a Pro
Where did the idea for Paris Like a Pro come from? As many of my readers know, I had the incredible opportunity to live and work in Paris for 6 years. It’s been a few years now, but it was a memorable period of my life. I will never forget just my commute to work from the 8th to the 15th arrondisement: I usually took the bus rather than the metro because my route passed over the Pont d’Alma with a tremendous view of the Eiffel Tower! I would pinch myself everyday, thinking, “I cannot believe I LIVE here!”
Getting to Know the City Like a Pro
And then, on the weekends, I would devour the gorgeous art and architecture that was everywhere in the city. Whether it was wandering the large art museums like the Louvre or the d’Orsay or finding small artistic gems down a narrow street, I absorbed it all. As to the Architecture in Europe, I was so inspired by the mix of new and old. I felt that I really wanted to go to Architecture school. A few years after moving back from Paris to Southern California, I found the courage to apply to Architecture School and I actually got accepted. After nearly 4 years of blood, sweat and tears in architecture school, my final thesis project was on a redevelopment of part of Paris (of course!).
Answering Your Questions About Paris
Flash forward to my blogging career and all of the questions I get about travelling to Paris. Even though I have many posts on parts of Paris and France – from the Notre Dame, to the Chateau de Chenonceau to great sites in the South of France. Despite all of these posts, I still get questions from not just readers of my blog to friends and family – what about Paris? What is the history of the great architecture I am seeing? And what are some good tips for visiting those monuments?
Paris Like a Pro is Born!
I decided that a simple blog post was not going to be enough. And, since I’m a teacher, it seemed natural to create my first online course. I wanted to make it FREE so that as many people could access it as possible. I decided to focus on the 5 most important buildings/monuments in (and around) Paris – the Eiffel Tower, the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre and Versailles. I detail the history and architectural information associated with these incredible sites. And after each lecture, I provide detailed logistical information related to visiting each site. Finally, I give some helpful information about getting around Paris using public transportation because I realized how daunting it can be.
If you are planning your first trip to Paris or you are returning soon, this is the course for you. I am confident you will learn helpful information about the City of Light!

October 17, 2019 at 8:26 pmThis is a wonderful idea. My husband and I traveled to Normandy last January. We rented a car and traveled all throughout the Normandy region, but we took a train into Paris. The first day of the metro was confusing, but we were pro’s by day two. Great blog idea!
