Modernism Week Spotlight: Yoasis Home Tour
One of my favorite homes on the Modernism Week Tour was one of the featured homes, Yoasis. Named after the home’s location on Yosemite Drive plus Oasis, the home was designed by Michael Ostrow of Grace Home Furnishings. With 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms, the home was originally built in 1965. The 4,774 square foot home was completely updated with a combination of Bohemian and Hollywood Regency style. The home is covered from top to bottom with vibrant fabrics, fabulous wallpaper and vintage touches to combine old and new.
An Exciting Entryway that Hints at What is to Come
I love a door painted in an unexpected color. Before even entering we know something exciting lies behind the stunning coral door and the coordinating camel artwork.
The Bar: The Best Seat in the House
Upon entering, the bar is the first space I encountered and it was the highlight of my whole trip. The combination of furnishings, fabrics, wall coverings, artwork and lighting created the most incredible space.
Wallpaper Everywhere!
“Maximalist” was key to the Yoasis design, with wild, playful wallpaper in every room. Sometimes the wallpaper echoed mid-century theme with geometric shapes.
In the guest room, the wallpaper was loud and so was the perfectly matching bedding.
Vintage Movie Posters Add to the Decor
Nearly every room featured a vintage movie poster, around which the color palette and design revolved. This added to the playfulness of the decor and added personality to each space.
Pulling it All Together
The Yoasis home is such a stunning example of mixing fabrics, textures, styles into one beautiful and fun look. Modernism Week sponsors Baldwin Hardware, Brizo, California Closets, DEDON, Dunn-Edwards Paints, Ferguson Bath, Kitchen and Lighting, Flor, JennAir, Minka, Modern Twig and Willis generously contributed to this project.
More About Modernism Week
Modernism Week is an annual event which takes place in Palm Springs, California and the surrounding Coachella Valley. There is a smaller event, which happens in the Fall, called “Fall Preview”. The main event takes place in February with ten days of home tours, talks, movies, parties, bus tours, bike tours, shopping and more. Advanced tickets are typically required of most events and many of the popular tours and events sell out quickly. Tickets typically go on sale in December. All of this information can be found on their website at Modernism Week. However, I have been many times now as a media participant and am happy to answer any of your questions. You can email me here or leave a comment below.
